Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital says it plans to train Zambian doctors in India in ophthalmology to provide specialised eye care services and expand its branches in Zambia from four to ten.
The Indian company, which currently operates four branches in Zambia, also plans to establish six more and set up a mobile eye care unit to reach rural areas.
Acting Health Minister Cornelius Mweetwa welcomed the initiative, saying it aligns with government’s vision to turn Zambia into a regional medical tourism hub. He noted the importance of partnerships in advancing eye care services, strengthening health systems, and expanding access to specialised care.
Mr. Mweetwa said the initiative will help reduce the number of people seeking specialised treatment abroad, while offering a unique opportunity to build capacity among health professionals and improve access for patients across the country.
Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Senior President Ugandhar Ramadoss said the expansion is aimed at empowering Zambians and creating employment opportunities. He added that the hospital will bring cutting-edge technology and specialised services, including cataract surgery and retina treatment, to Zambia.
