Zambia and Tanzania have resolved 14 out of 24 reported trade barriers to ensure the smooth facilitation of trade between the two countries.
Among the barriers addressed were the consolidation of council levies and clarification of employment regulations. The two countries also agreed to establish a functional Non-Tariff Barrier (NTB) Monitoring System by the end of August.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe and Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs Minister Thabit Kombo further agreed to expedite the signing and operationalization of the Zombe/Kasesya One-Stop Border Post. This was during a Joint Ministerial Visit to the Tunduma/Nakonde One-Stop Border Post yesterday.
Mr. Haimbe assured that the packing yard on the Zambian side will be completed, with Lot I of the works finalized by March 31, 2026, and Lot II commencing in April 2026.
Mr. Kombo also pledged that works on the by-pass road in Tanzania will be completed within six months.
