The Government has welcomed the European Union’s decision to deploy an Election Observation Mission as Zambia prepares for the 2026 General Election.

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE says the deployment reflects the shared commitment between Zambia and the European Union to transparency, accountability and credible democratic processes.
Mr. HAIMBE was speaking during the Zambia–European Union Partnership Dialogue held in Lusaka.

He expressed the Government’s appreciation for the EU’s continued support in promoting economic stability, advancing debt sustainability efforts and facilitating economic recovery.
And European Union Ambassador to Zambia KAROLINA STASIAK said the Election Observation Mission is intended to accompany Zambia throughout the electoral process by providing an independent, impartial and professional assessment.
Ms. STASIAK said the mission will not only observe the elections but also contribute to long-term institutional strengthening in support of peaceful, free and fair electoral processes.
Meanwhile, Ms. STASIAK disclosed that European business actors are keen to expand trade and investment ties with Zambia.
She said the EU and Zambia can work together to address existing bottlenecks and create a more predictable business environment anchored in transparent regulatory frameworks, effective implementation and strong oversight mechanisms.
