Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Eastern Province says President Hakainde Hichilema deserves another mandate due to his good performance.
Speaking when President Hichilema called on him at Laweni, Paramount Chief Mpezeni said the Head of State has demonstrated strong leadership through various empowerment programmes.
He noted that the increase in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has led to numerous developmental projects, including the procurement of graders in different parts of the country. He also highlighted government’s promotion of education through the free education policy, as well as empowerment initiatives such as Cash for Work and the Social Cash Transfer Programme, which he said are transforming lives.
Chief Mpezeni stressed that he is not shy to speak on behalf of the people.
In response, President Hichilema expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying he does not take the recognition for granted. He emphasized the key role Paramount Chief Mpezeni plays in preserving heritage, which reflects the country’s identity.
President Hichilema reaffirmed government’s support for traditional ceremonies, describing them as unifiers. He also appreciated the partnership between traditional leaders and government, noting that it is working well in promoting peace and development.
The President added that government is building chiefs’ palaces to bring dignity and decency to traditional leadership.
