The Government is implementing both short- and long-term measures to address challenges motorists are facing after the bridge on the Chingola–Chililabombwe Road was washed away.
Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo explained that engineers from the Road Development Agency, Zambia National Service, AVIC International, and councils from Chingola and Chililabombwe have been engaged to find a lasting solution.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kitwe this morning, Mr. Matambo added that mobile toilets and water will be provided to stranded motorists during the ongoing bridge repairs to help prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
He assured motorists that Government is working continuously to create a detour for smaller vehicles, while exploring alternative options to enable trucks to resume movement.
Heavy rains have destroyed the Kakoso Bridge, leaving motorists travelling to and from the Kasumbalesa border stranded.
