Agness Phiri scored twice as Zambia defeated Zimbabwe 3–1 to claim bronze at the 2026 Women’s COSAFA Championship.
Phiri found the net in the 2nd and 26th minutes, while Mercy Chipasula added the third goal in the 44th minute. Zimbabwe pulled one back when Rutebdo Makore capitalized on a defensive error to make it 3–1.
The result sees former title holders Zambia settle for bronze.
Speaking after the match, Copper Queens Assistant Coach Charles Haalubono said the third-place finish has boosted the team’s morale after missing out on the final. He added that the squad has gained valuable lessons that will aid preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Phiri, who was named Player of the Match, acknowledged the difficulty of the game but emphasized that the team was determined to finish on a positive note.
