Two Civil Servants Drown in Lutembwe River, Zambezi

ZANIS -Two civil servants have drowned in the Lutembwe River in Zambezi, North-Western Province, while on their way to carry out official duties.
Zambezi District Health Director Dr. Dingani Daka confirmed the incident, saying the two drowned on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after their canoe capsized.
Dr. Daka identified the deceased as 31-year-old Community Health Assistant Fred Sapilinya and 32-year-old teacher Teddy Sakandula of Nyachikayi Primary School.
He explained that the two were attempting to cross to Zambezi East to access internet services in order to submit monthly work reports and Grade 7 examination entries.
Dr. Daka added that the West Bank is currently inaccessible by road due to heavy flooding, forcing government to deploy helicopters to facilitate the retrieval of the bodies.
