Government has begun relocating people affected by floods in Western Province.
The flooding has hit ten of the sixteen districts in the province.
Among the affected districts are Nalolo, Mitete, Sikongo and Mongu.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit –DMMU- National Coordinator NORMAN CHIPAKUPAKU says the distribution of relief supplies to affected families has already started.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU said this after carrying out an aerial assessment of some of the affected districts in Western Province.
He said the province will also receive boats to help move affected people to higher ground.
Mr. CHIPAKUPAKU further said government will provide the necessary support, as many families have also lost their fields due to the floods.
Western Province Permanent Secretary SIMOMO AKAPELWA has commended the DMMU for its quick response.
Mr. AKAPELWA said the provincial administration is also making sure that essential supplies are provided to affected families in the camps.
Meanwhile, Nalolo District Commissioner NAMATAMA MUTANDI said thirteen families have so far been relocated to higher ground, with the number expected to rise.
