Chilanga Women Call for Greater Leadership Participation

Women in Chilanga District have called for greater participation in leadership and decision-making positions.

Speaking during this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations, several women described the theme “Rights. Justice. Action, For All Women and Girls” as timely, noting that government policies are creating opportunities for women to actively contribute to national development.

Tioneke Cooperative Chairperson Grace Sinkamba challenged women to take advantage of these opportunities by contesting for seats in Parliament. She emphasized that current governance structures are creating space for more women to take up decision-making roles and ensure their voices are represented.

Acting Chilanga District Commissioner Maureen Chilende said the district has recorded increased participation of women in empowerment and education programmes.

Meanwhile, Chilanga Council Chairperson Champion Tembo disclosed that in 2025 about 60 groups, including women’s groups, benefited from grants amounting to over K2 million. He added that in 2026 more than 67 groups are expected to benefit from grants worth K2.7 million aimed at supporting small businesses and improving livelihoods.
