Suspected criminals have allegedly stolen 10 copper cathodes from a moving truck along the Great North Road in Mazabuka, Southern Province.
The consignment, which originated from Ndola, was destined for Johannesburg, South Africa.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo said the incident is believed to have occurred between 18:00 and 19:00 hours on March 6, 2026, between Dallas Hills in Chikankata District and the Ten Miles area in Mazabuka District.
Ms. Namalongo explained that the criminals stole 10 copper cathodes valued at about 7,000 United States dollars from a white Hino truck, registration number BAZ 516, with trailer number AJF 2127 ZM, belonging to Sunshine Industry Limited of Lusaka.
The truck had been carrying around 37 tonnes of copper plates, which were loaded in Ndola before the journey to South Africa. The convoy, consisting of two trucks, made a stop in Lusaka before continuing their journey the following day at around 14:00 hours.
Ms. Namalongo said no arrests or recoveries have been made so far, and investigations are ongoing.
