Nkandu Reaffirms FAZ Autonomy in Football Affairs

By Lupindula Mwewa
Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu says government will not interfere in the appointment of a coach for the men’s national soccer team.
Mr. Nkandu explained that the appointment of national team coaches is the responsibility of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), while government’s role is to provide support, including facilitating the payment of salaries for the technical bench.
His remarks follow FAZ’s announcement that George Lwandamina has been appointed interim head coach of the Zambia National Football Team.
Mr. Nkandu emphasized that government respects FAZ’s autonomy in managing football affairs and will not oppose any decisions regarding the appointment of coaches.
He added that government will continue working with FAZ to ensure the national team is adequately supported as it prepares for upcoming international competitions.
