A three-year-old boy from Senior Chief Nzamane’s area in Kasenengwa District has drowned in a pit latrine.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba identified the deceased as Emmanuel Daka of Zilile Village, who drowned around 11:00 hours yesterday.
Mr. Mweemba explained that the child was left at home with his elder siblings, who are also juveniles, when the incident occurred. Emmanuel reportedly went near an open pit that had been dug for use as a latrine and fell inside.
He said a neighbour retrieved the boy in an unconscious state, but he was later pronounced dead at the Zambia National Service Chiwoko Camp Clinic.
