Teacher Arrested in Chama Over Alleged Independence Day Murder

Police in Chama, Eastern Province, have arrested a 38-year-old teacher in connection with the alleged murder of a man on Independence Day this year.

The suspect, William Kumwenda of Umoyo Primary School, is accused of murdering Mathesw Kumwenda, aged 51, of Mutanila Village in Chief Kambombo’s area.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, which occurred in Chizimba Village. He stated that the suspect is currently detained at Chama Police Station and is awaiting court appearance.

The case has drawn attention locally, given the suspect’s role as a teacher and the gravity of the charges.
