Police in Nyimba District, Eastern Province, have arrested a 36-year-old teacher for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old Grade 6 pupil.
The suspect, Zebron Nyirongo of Machinkha Primary School, is accused of committing the offence on November 27, 2025.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred in the teacher’s office at the school.
He explained that the matter came to light after the girl’s guardians discovered she was in possession of K200, allegedly given to her by Nyirongo to conceal the incident.
Mr. Mweemba said that on the day of the incident, the pupil had been sent to collect books from Nyirongo’s office after completing her end-of-term examination.
It was then that the suspect allegedly locked her inside and committed the offence.
