Zambia Participates in SADC PF 58th Plenary Assembly in Durban

The 58th Plenary Assembly Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF) has opened in Durban, South Africa, with a strong call for greater regional cooperation.

Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, leading a Zambian delegation of five Members of Parliament, presented the report on the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and related meetings held in Geneva, Switzerland, in October 2025.

The report highlighted key resolutions, including the adoption of the Geneva Declaration on Upholding Humanitarian Norms. Ms. Mutti, who serves on the IPU Executive Committee representing the Africa Geo-Political Group, expressed optimism that the report’s highlights will help member parliaments address emerging global governance issues.

Supporting the motion to adopt the IPU Report, Chinsali MP Kalalwe Mukosa reaffirmed Zambia’s support for the IPU’s firm stance on defending democracy and constitutional order.

Earlier, Mutinta Mazoka delivered Zambia’s Country Report on the implementation of resolutions from the 57th SADC-PF Plenary Assembly, underscoring Zambia’s commitment to democratic governance, sustainable development, and regional cooperation.

Meanwhile, Chifunabuli MP Julien Nyemba informed the Assembly that Zambia has enacted significant legislative reforms, aligning the Marriage Act with the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development.

This was contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News by National Assembly Senior Media Liaison Officer Nshamba Muzungu.
