Education Minister Douglas Syakalima says Government has recruited more than 42,000 teachers since 2022, with an additional 3,500 teachers expected to be hired in 2026.
Speaking during the handover of 60 desks donated by ZANACO Bank to Kabanana Primary School in Lusaka, Mr. Syakalima said Government has also procured 1.6 million desks for schools nationwide to support the free education policy.
He further highlighted the continued expansion of the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, which now benefits 4.6 million learners and is set to cover all districts by 2026.
Meanwhile, ZANACO Bank Chief Executive Officer Mukwandi Chibesakunda, represented by Chief Financial Officer Itwi Kalaluka, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting the education sector.
Kabanana Primary School Head Teacher Bernadette Masumba expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that the desks will significantly improve the learning environment for pupils.
