Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says the Zambian government is aligned with the United States’ approach to foreign aid, which emphasizes creating growth and job opportunities for recipient countries.
Dr. Musokotwane noted that while the US has the potential to provide further grants to Zambia, such support must align with the new Trump administration’s vision on foreign assistance. He made the remarks during a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs, Caleb Orr, to explore ways of deepening economic ties between the two nations.
The Minister reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to gradually phasing out reliance on aid, focusing instead on building a stronger economy and creating jobs.
Meanwhile, Mr. Orr expressed the US’s readiness to invest in Zambia, highlighting the mining sector’s importance and the potential for diversification into other industries. He emphasized that the Trump administration’s pro-growth, results-driven approach to foreign aid presents an opportunity for Zambia to unlock its economic potential and secure prosperity for future generations.
