Katongo Urges Patience as Chipolopolo Prepare for AFCON 2025

By Mwamba Makonde
2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning captain Christopher Katongo has advised against placing excessive pressure on the Chipolopolo as they prepare for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
Katongo emphasized that the current squad should not be pushed into delivering an immediate title, noting that qualification itself is a significant achievement after successive early exits. Speaking to FAZ Media, he expressed satisfaction at Zambia’s return to the continental stage, stressing that consistent qualification is the surest path to rebuilding a strong national team.
He recalled that Zambia’s historic 2012 AFCON triumph came after years of gradual progress, including early eliminations in 2006, 2008, and 2010, which helped shape a resilient and experienced side.
Katongo has since encouraged the nation to rally behind the team as they prepare for a challenging Group A that features hosts Morocco, Mali, and Comoros.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
