The Revised Cash for Work Programme has been expanded to all 116 districts of Zambia, up from the 87 districts previously covered.
This follows Cabinet approval during a meeting chaired by President Hakainde Hichilema at State House.
Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the programme aims to provide temporary employment opportunities to vulnerable citizens in exchange for cash wages, while stimulating economic activity across the country. He added that the initiative will empower individuals to contribute to various community projects.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has approved the Tobacco Control Bill, 2025, designed to protect public health by regulating the packaging and labeling of tobacco products, nicotine products, and nicotine devices.
Mr. Mweetwa also announced the approval of the Zambia Wildlife Regulations, 2025, which align domestic wildlife trade laws with the minimum requirements of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
On constitutional reforms, Mr. Mweetwa reiterated that the process of the proposed constitutional amendments, Bill Number 7, has been inclusive, with submissions from civil society organizations, church groups, and other stakeholders. He urged citizens to read the Bill and actively participate in ongoing consultations.
