The Junior Chess Team is in Harare, Zimbabwe, for the ongoing 2025 Africa Youth Chess Championship, which runs from December 6 to 18, 2025.
International Chess Master Andrew Kayonde, who is leading the delegation, said the tournament has attracted 18 African countries, creating a highly competitive field.
Zambia has traveled with 18 players—nine girls and nine boys—who have so far put up an impressive showing. Kayonde revealed that seven Zambian players remain in strong contention for top positions as the championship enters its decisive phase.
He added that the team has completed five rounds and will face four crucial encounters, stressing that the coming games will be tough and require full concentration.
