Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. MWEETWA said Government is also concerned about efforts to draw President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA into court proceedings.

He said attempts to join the Head of State to the matter were malicious and an attempt to misuse the judicial process by individuals who should understand the constitutional limits.

Mr. MWEETWA added that the National Assembly holds exclusive authority under Zambian law to make and amend legislation, and that attempts to use the courts to override Parliament’s mandate will not succeed.

The Chief Government Spokesperson also noted concern that some institutions, including the Law Association of Zambia -LAZ, are not providing guidance to the Oasis Forum.

Mr. MWEETWA said the Opposition’s attempts to use Bill 7 to divert public attention from the country’s economic gains are unlikely to succeed.
