CCZ Warns Against Digital Violence

By Mwila Nsofu

The Council of Churches in Zambia has called for the responsible and ethical use of digital platforms.

CCZ General Secretary, EMMANUEL CHIKOYA, says the Council is deeply concerned about the growing misuse of digital platforms to inflict emotional pain and harm through inconsiderate remarks, demeaning comments, and inappropriate memes targeting women and girls.

Bishop CHIKOYA says everyone must take personal responsibility and serve as ambassadors of peace, dignity, and love in both physical and digital spaces.

He notes that while technology has positively transformed work and social interaction, it has also created new challenges, particularly its use as a tool for digital violence against women and girls.

Bishop CHIKOYA said this to ZNBC news in LUSAKA.

He has since urged all victims of violence to report such cases to the relevant authorities so that justice can prevail.

The CCZ General Secretary further called on these authorities to ensure that timely and deterrent measures are taken against perpetrators.

Bishop CHIKOYA added that as the country marked Human Rights Day yesterday, it is important to remember that one person’s rights end where another’s begin.

He said respect and empathy must guide all interactions.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence came to an end yesterday, 10 December 2025, under the theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”
