Over 128,649 households are at risk of floods, epidemics, and drought in the 2025-2026 season.

Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO has confirmed that the government is already aware of the districts likely to be affected by these disasters.

Mrs. NALUMANGO explains that 37 districts are at risk of floods, while 46 districts face the threat of dry spells, potentially impacting a total population of over 617,515 people.

She said this in the National Assembly during the delivery of a Ministerial Statement, where she outlined the government’s plans to address the challenges arising from these potential disasters, which have already started to unfold with the onset of the rains.

The Vice President also noted that the National Multi-Hazard Contingency Plan has been approved, with anticipatory actions set in place to prepare for the three key hazards expected this rainy season: floods, prolonged dry spells, and epidemics.

Mrs. NALUMANGO explained that in order to mitigate the impact of these hazards on people’s lives, property, livelihoods, and the environment, various response clusters have been activated.

She said the clusters are tasked with implementing anticipatory activities to help reduce the effects of these potential disasters.
