Campaigns for the Chawama Constituency by‑election have officially opened, beginning today, December 17, 2025 at 14:00 hours, and running until January 14, 2026 at 18:00 hours.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), working in consultation with participating political parties, has developed a structured campaign timetable to guide all activities ahead of the poll.
Chawama Constituency Returning Officer Lewis Lupando said the plan is designed to promote a smooth, orderly and fair campaign period. He explained that the creation of zones will ensure equal opportunities for all candidates.
Candidates have also been given detailed information on the polling stations within the nine zones, including the specific stations allocated to each zone.
In addition, ECZ is preparing to engage youths and women through two dedicated conferences. The Women’s Conference is scheduled for Thursday, December 18, while the Youth Conference will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025.
ECZ Corporate Affairs and Social Media Officer Matthew Nyondo said the Returning Officer will request political parties and candidates to submit names of influential women and youths who can positively mobilize others. Other stakeholders, including the church and women’s organisations, will also be invited.
