World Bank Approves $45m for Zambia’s Reform Agenda
The World Bank has approved 45 million US dollars under the Second Zambia Climate and Economic Resilience Programmatic Development Policy Financing.
The funds, to be disbursed through the International Development Association, are intended to reinforce international support for Zambia’s ongoing macroeconomic reform programme and efforts to strengthen economic resilience.
Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane described the budget support as a reflection of growing international confidence in Zambia’s reform agenda and commitment to strengthening economic governance.
Dr. Musokotwane explained that the approved operation will support Zambia’s reform agenda through three interlinked policy pillars:
- Fiscal management and economic resilience
- Private-sector investment and enabling sectors
- Disaster risk management and climate resilience
He noted that the third pillar reflects Zambia’s vulnerability to climate-related shocks affecting agriculture, water resources, and electricity supply.
The Minister added that government is also working on measures to enhance the financial sustainability of the water sector and strengthen the regulatory autonomy of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council.
