NAIS-Over 100 hectares of land have been allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture in Kasama District for the establishment of permanent demonstration fields aimed at promoting sustainable farming practices.
Kasama Senior Agricultural Officer John Chilundika said the land, drawn from traditional areas, has been designated in about 15 camps out of 54 in the district for agricultural purposes.
Speaking during a field day in Nkolemfumu Camp, Mr. Chilundika thanked traditional leaders for their support in making the land available to the Ministry.
Nkolemfumu Camp Committee Chairperson Micheal Chilufya disclosed that the camp has acquired over 21 hectares for technology demonstrations. Each zone within the camp will feature climate-smart technologies designed to improve farming practices and address environmental challenges.
Chief Nkolemfumu of the Bemba people, through his Chief Secretary Ntalasha Bwalya, commended the Ministry of Agriculture for consistently demonstrating climate-smart technologies each season. He noted that livelihoods have improved through crop diversification introduced by the Ministry, adding that many youths have also engaged in farming, increasing economic activities in the chiefdom.
