Police in Chipata, Eastern Province, have apprehended two youths in connection with the physical confrontation between rival political party groups during Youth Day celebrations.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said investigations are ongoing and assured that all perpetrators of the violence will be brought to book.
Mr. Mweemba clarified that police did not receive any reports of a child’s death or a stampede linked to the event.
He explained that the confusion began around 10:00 hours on Youth Day when youths from different political parties failed to adhere to the designated starting point of the march, leading to a physical confrontation.
