The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the Chess Federation of Zambia are among the top contenders in the nominations for the 2025 National Sports Awards, set to take place in Livingstone this Friday.
FAZ has been nominated in the Federation of the Year category, while the Under-17 boys’ and girls’ national teams are shortlisted for the Men’s and Women’s Team of the Year awards.
Under-17 Women’s National Team Coach Carol Kanyemba has also been nominated in the Female Coach of the Year category, alongside Lisa Jaegnert of the Equestrian Federation and Kutasha Musonda of World Fitness Zambia.
Meanwhile, the Chess Federation of Zambia has four players nominated across different categories, including Vankhedekar Nitya, Rafael Sharon, Thomas Zulu, and Constance Mbatha. Federation President Leslie Chikuse has congratulated the players on their nominations.
FAZ Head of Media and Communications Nkweto Tembwe said the nominations reflect the association’s efforts to develop the sport.
In the Sportsman of the Year category, Patrick Chinyemba will compete with swimmer Zack Moyo and chess player Thomas Zulu.
Meanwhile, ZNBC dominates the Electronic Media category, with Chris Bwalya and Mwamba Makonde nominated for Journalist of the Year.
