The Senegalese Football Federation has challenged the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title.
The Federation announced that it will initiate appeal proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, describing the decision as unjust, unprecedented, and unacceptable, warning that it risks bringing disrepute to African football.
In the same vein, the Senegalese Government expressed deep dismay at the ruling, saying it undermines the fundamental principles of sporting ethics. The State pledged to use all appropriate avenues of appeal, including competent international judicial bodies, to ensure justice and restore the primacy of sporting results.
Authorities have also called for an independent international investigation into suspicions of corruption within CAF’s governing bodies.
This follows the CAF Appeal Board’s decision to strip Senegal of the AFCON title 58 days after being crowned champions.
The statements were issued by both the Government and the Federation and obtained by ZNBC News.
