Suspected African Swine Fever Case in Kafue Tests Negative

The suspected case of African swine fever reported in Kafue District has tested negative, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has confirmed.

Director of Veterinary Services Dr. Chales Maseka said investigations established that there are no clinical cases of African swine fever at the suspected farm or surrounding farms.

Dr. Maseka explained that the suspected case was reported on February 19, 2026, in Kafue District of Lusaka Province. He added that the temporary movement restriction imposed on the farm and nearby facilities has now been revoked.

He further stated that the movement of pigs from the suspected farm and surrounding farms to the abattoir for slaughter is now permitted, but emphasized that all pig movements must be accompanied by a stock movement permit issued by the Department of Veterinary Services.
