Air Transport Earns Zambia K9.9 Billion in 2025

By Ellen Hambuba
The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) says the country’s air transport sector recorded significant gains in 2025, contributing about 9.9 billion kwacha to export earnings.
This represents three percent of Zambia’s total exports, making air transport the second-largest contributor after road transport.
ZACL Board Chairperson Daan Brink revealed that cargo volumes rose by 14 percent last year to over 21,000 metric tonnes, reflecting strong growth and recovery in the sector.
Mr. Brink explained that the increase has been driven by demand for fast and reliable transport of high-value and perishable goods, including fresh produce and flowers. He emphasized that strengthening air connectivity remains key to unlocking Zambia’s full export potential.
He noted that while the country has strong production capacity and improving storage systems, efficient air cargo transport is still the missing link.
He said, improving air lift will help preserve product quality, reduce delivery time, and connect Zambian goods to international markets.
Mr. Brink reaffirmed ZACL’s commitment to investing in airport infrastructure, cargo facilities, and partnerships with airlines to support continued growth in the sector.
