More than 142 million Kwacha has been disbursed to farmers in Lusaka Province who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
Lusaka Provincial Administration Principal Public Relations Officer, Logic Lukwanda, explained that the amount represents about 37 percent of the over 237 million Kwacha total outstanding payment owed to farmers.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Mr. Lukwanda further noted that government has successfully moved 55,554 metric tonnes of maize into safe storage facilities. This represents 99.47 percent of the 55,850 metric tonnes purchased in Lusaka Province.
He added that Rufunsa District currently has 102 metric tonnes of maize at satellite depots, Lusaka District has 38 metric tonnes, and Chongwe District has 32 metric tonnes, while Kafue District has no maize remaining.
Meanwhile, Chirundu District purchased 1,234 metric tonnes of maize and has already paid out more than 3 million Kwacha to farmers.
