Government Refutes Allegations of Ineffective Operations at Konkola Copper Mines

Government has dismissed allegations that Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) is failing to operate effectively.

Vice President Mutale Nalumango said the reports are false, emphasizing that the mine is on course with its production.

She noted that KCM has increased its output from 40,000 metric tonnes to over 100,000 metric tonnes of copper per year.

Mrs. Nalumango added that the few challenges at the mine are likely linked to some contractors.

The Vice President made the remarks in the National Assembly during Question Time, responding to Chama North Member of Parliament, Yotam Mtayachalo, who alleged that KCM is struggling to replace working tools and manage workers’ welfare.
