Government has heightened national preparedness measures to prevent the spread of cholera as the country continues to record cases in selected districts.
Health Minister Elijah Muchima says a surveillance and response system is in place, supported by daily monitoring of high-risk areas, prepositioning of essential medical supplies, and ongoing community sensitisation.
Dr. Muchima told the National Assembly that the national strategy is anchored on the 2025 Cholera Contingency Plan, with the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre coordinating a multi-sectoral, data-driven response across the country.
He revealed that Zambia has so far recorded 569 cholera cases since the outbreak began on August 5th in Northern Province. Of these, 556 patients have been treated and discharged, while 4 remain admitted in Monze and Mpulungu.
