The Constitutional Court has dismissed the application by the Civil Society Organisations to halt the proceedings of the Technical Committee on Amendments to the Constitution.
Constitutional Court Judge Mapani Kawimbe says the applicants have not met the threshold for the Conservatory Order to halt the proceedings.
Judge Kawimbe has also ruled that on the balance of probability, public interest must be tilted towards allowing the proceedings to continue.
This is against the demands by the applicants that the proceedings of the Technical Committee on Amendments to the Constitution must be stopped in accordance with public interest.
The applicants were the Law Association of Zambia, Non-governmental Organisation Coordinating Council – and Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Others were the Council of Churches in Zambia, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia and LCK Freedom Foundation Limited.
