Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General, Dingani Banda, has called for innovation and collaboration to drive digital transformation in tax administration.
Mr. Banda stated that the future of tax management will be digital, data-driven, transparent, and citizen-centred. He emphasized that ideas generated from hackathons have the potential to shape the future of Zambia, not only the ZRA.
Delivering his speech on Mr. Banda’s behalf, ZRA Acting Commissioner of Business Facilitation, Yvonne Mwanza, highlighted the importance of innovation during the 2025 Hackathon, themed “Digital Transformation Through Innovation and Creativity.” The event brought together the top 10 university teams to develop solutions to challenges in tax administration.
Mr. Banda explained that the hackathon aims to spark innovation that can strengthen revenue mobilisation, improve compliance, and enhance efficiency in tax operations.
He expressed gratitude to universities and partners, including the Bank of Zambia, Smart Zambia, ICTAZ, NAPSA, and ZICTA, for their contribution to national modernization and improvements in tax administration.
During the competition, Texila American University emerged as the winner, receiving K100,000, followed by Eden University with K70,000, while Mulungushi University secured third place with K40,000.
Other participants—Copperbelt University, Information and Communication University, Mukuba University, ZCAS University, and Cavendish University—each received K10,000.
