The Mpika Town Council has announced a crackdown on lodges and guest houses being used as brothels.

Council Secretary, Samuel Musenge, stated that any facilities found engaging in such illicit activities will be shut down. He emphasized that converting guest houses into brothels is illegal and urged owners to stop immediately, warning that licences will be revoked and legal action taken.

Mr. Musenge further revealed that the Council plans to repossess uncompleted buildings within the district to maintain community standards.

Earlier, Senior Health Inspector, Francis Kapila, called for strict compliance and urged all lodges, restaurants, and bars to obtain the required licences, including Food Handlers’ Certificates and Liquor Licences.

He also warned sex workers operating along Yama Road to stop, citing concerns over public safety and order.

Mr. Kapila stressed that the Council remains determined to uphold the law and ensure a safe environment for both residents and visitors.

This was contained in a statement released to ZNBC News by Mpika Council Public Relations Officer, Mushota Mpundu.
