Small-scale miners in Chingola have apologized to President Hakainde Hichilema for the stoning incident that occurred during his last visit to the district in Copperbelt Province.
Representative Sydney Mwila condemned the unruly behavior of some youths, stressing that the miners support President Hichilema’s fight against illegal mining activities and will not entertain politicians seeking to exploit the youths for political gain.
Mr. Mwila made the remarks during a meeting attended by Minister of Mines Paul Kabuswe, Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo, and Chingola MP Chipoka Mulenga, following a solidarity march in Chingola.

Another miner, Mike Mushota, pledged to work with the police to promote peace in the district and expressed support for President Hichilema in 2026, citing his commitment to the welfare of small-scale miners.
Mr. Mushota also welcomed the government’s deal with Sensele investors, which will provide $4 million USD in empowerment funds to small-scale miners.
Minister Kabuswe said the apology demonstrates that Chingola is peaceful and supportive of President Hichilema. He further announced that the $4 million USD will be deposited into the miners’ account within two weeks, and that Sensele investors plan to create jobs for miners in the district.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo and Chingola MP Chipoka Mulenga praised the miners for apologizing on behalf of the few unruly youths.
