Livingstone Residents Welcome Lenacapavir HIV Prevention Injection

Residents of Livingstone have expressed excitement over the introduction of the Lenacapavir injection, a form of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) that only needs to be taken twice a year to prevent HIV.

In an interview with ZNBC News, Makalicha Lucia commended Government’s efforts in the fight against HIV through PrEP, while also calling for more adolescent health programs to reduce teenage pregnancies and the spread of HIV.

Another resident, Viginia Misika, suggested that tourists should also have access to PrEP to help lower infection rates in the tourist capital.

Richard Mushabati, District Coordinator for the Network of Zambian People Living with HIV, said Lenacapavir is a positive step because it helps reduce stigma.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Watala, Livingstone District HIV Testing and Community Program Officer, assured that the district health office will intensify existing HIV prevention measures during the festive season.
