The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has called for collective responsibility in road safety, following alarming statistics of 28,312 road crashes recorded by the third quarter of 2025, which resulted in 1,890 deaths.
RTSA Chief Executive Officer Amon Mweemba, speaking during the flag-off of Safety Week in Kafue District, attributed the accidents to reckless driving, driver fatigue, and other unsafe practices. He announced that RTSA, working with the Zambia Police Service, will intensify patrols and inspections to curb accidents during the festive season.
Kafue Council Chairperson Buumba Malambo emphasized the need for collective action, involving schools, the Road Development Agency, and other stakeholders, to promote road safety awareness.
Meanwhile, RTSA Road Safety Ambassador Jeremy Thorniroty stressed that daily accidents can be avoided if all road users prioritize safety rules and adopt responsible driving habits.
