The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) has taken a significant step towards nationwide coverage with the launch of Radio 4 in Solwezi, North-Western Province, on 88.9 FM as of 17th August 2025.

This launch is particularly notable as it marks Solwezi as the second provincial capital away from the line of rail to receive Radio 4, following the successful rollout in Chinsali, Muchinga Province, on 95.3 FM.
Local listeners, including Benard Lwambula and John Mweetwa, have warmly welcomed the development, praising the entertaining content.
This expansion is a key part of ZNBC’s ongoing efforts to extend Radio 4’s reach beyond the traditional line of rail, driven by the corporation’s recognition of radio’s vital role in disseminating information, fostering national unity, and providing engaging entertainment.
ZNBC has 62 FM transmission sites, covering 65% of Zambia’s FM landscape, with a goal of achieving 99.9% coverage. Managed by provincial engineers and supported by community feedback, these sites ensure reliable service.
Principal engineer Planning Oswald Mulasu said future plans include expanding Radio 4 FM signals to all provincial centres in Zambia.
With 46% of Zambians relying on radio weekly, according to IPSOS, ZNBC’s commitment to expanding Radio 4, reinforces its role in fostering national unity and empowering communities.
