Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO has expressed pleasure that Kanyama Township has not recorded any cholera cases since the start of the rainy season.
Mrs. NALUMANGO attributes this development to Government interventions, including the administration of the cholera vaccine and ongoing public awareness campaigns on hygiene and cleanliness.
She was speaking after Lusaka Province Health Director, SIMULYAMANA CHOONGA, reported that Lusaka Province has recorded 20 cholera cases since November 2025, adding that none of the cases originated from Kanyama Township.
The remarks were made during her visit to Kanyama Level One Hospital, where she presented hampers to babies born on December 29, the date Zambia was declared a Christian nation.
The Vice President described the report as encouraging, especially given that Kanyama Township has historically been prone to cholera outbreaks, often recording cases annually.
She further noted that her recent visit to the area had revealed noticeable improvements.
Mrs. NALUMANGO also said Zambia remains a Christian nation and that Government will continue to work with the Church, noting that both institutions serve the same communities.
Meanwhile, Kanyama Level One Hospital Medical Superintendent, JAMES NYIRENDA, disclosed that 15 babies were born between midnight and 08:00 hours.
In a related development, Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the Declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation, Bishop BILLY MFULA, said children born on 29 December are special, as the date marks the day Zambia entered into a covenant with God as a Christian nation.
