Police in Katete District, Eastern Province, have detained a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping a 61-year-old woman.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba identified the suspect as Aaron Mwanza of Chimbunda Village, Chief M’bang’ombe.
Mr. Mweemba said the incident occurred around 03:00 hours yesterday when Mwanza allegedly forced his way into the victim’s house.
He explained that while the woman was asleep, she heard noise at the door, which had a weak locking system. When she attempted to get out of bed, the suspect allegedly pushed her onto the mattress and raped her.
Mr. Mweemba added that the victim was unable to scream because the suspect covered her mouth with his hands. She later reported the matter to Katete Police Station, leading to Mwanza’s arrest.
