TOURISM Minister Rodney Sikumba has welcomed an initiative by Immersive International & Agusta Productions to develop a concept for a climate focused charity concert at the Mosi Oa Tunya/ Victoria Falls heritage site in May 2024.
Reacting to the presentation made by the film-makers at Kwacha House this morning, the Minister said, the idea has come at the right time when the Zambia is making some noise on the international tourism market and hence, the need to continue with the buzz.
He said the event could help get the much needed One Million visitors to the falls and make Zambia more visible to the international tourism.
Hon. Sikumba urged the organizers to focus on the value of the event away from costs for the benefit of marketing.
And Immersive International Managing Director & Executive Creative Director Tommy Lexen said against the stunning backdrop of Victoria Falls, the team will create the world’s biggest visual show spanning a natural canvas of 1.7 km wide and 150m high, featuring unique performances from some of the best artists of our time and powered
by the waterfall itself.
He said the ultimate idea is to place Zambia on the global map as the official home of Victoria Falls.
Lexen said Over the past two decades, Immersive International has been at the heart of some of the world’s most-watched spectacles: the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the London Olympics, the Sochi Winter Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and the Pan Arab Games.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Thompson who is local organizer of the event said the show has potential to create employment opportunities for young people in the country.
He said it will help in improving talent for the youths who are have interest in film productions.
The concept is themed The Victoria Falls Live Project and would work with Zambia Tourism Agency as a Founding Partner when it materializes.
