Minister talks Tourism and Green Investments

As a start to Zambia’s Tourism Week activities, Tourism Minster Rodney Sikumba today led Management and staff under his charge by taking part in the cleaning of the Lusaka National Museum and planting of 20 different trees at Lusaka’s Embassy Park as way of creating visibility for the two facilities.

Speaking at the Museum, the Minister said the tourism facility has not had enough visitors to appreciate what is being offered there, and hence the need to create  prominence around it during the World Tourism Week, as part of the activities that will culminate into World Tourism Day on 27th September, 2023.

He said this year’s World Tourism Day theme, Tourism and Green Investment comes as a  challenge to the Ministry to bring investors to the various tourism sites around the country which are investment ready.

The Livingstone Parliamentarian said considering that Livingstone and Lusaka have been declared as Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) Cities, there is need for visitors to the cities to visit the two museums in the cities and learn more about what Zambia has to offer.

And the Minister called on Zambians to be visiting the Presidential Burial Site at Embassy Park and pay last respects to the late presidents that lie there.

He said the heritage site is convenient for people that want to quiet place for meditation and reflection as seen in other countries around the world.

Hon. Sikumba said for this reason the Ministry wants to ensure that the site is ‘green’ hence the reason to plant the 20 trees in line with the World Tourism Day theme.
